Homestay in Nepal: what is it?

Homestays are similar to bed and breakfast accommodation, like today's popular air BnB. Or  stay and expereince like the popular merigold hotel movie.  Guests are invited into a private home, sharing the family's meal times and also their smiles. Living with local people is the best way to learn about their culture and beliefs. You can stay with us before or after your  travel and trekking holidays. Can join some of the festivals, rituals, prayers or even volunteer.

In our  Nepal home stay, you will be welcomed as a family member. We will be pleased to greet you at the airport and bring you to our house in Ichangu, near Radha Krishna Mandir, about four kilometres from central Thamel and stay near the glorious Raniban Forest ( Fresh air!).

Our newly built home in the traditional Newari style features the region's distinctive terracotta tiles and antique carved wood doors and windows. It has three guest rooms with en suites. Two of the guest rooms are in a separate building beside the main home. With a rooftop kitchen and open-air lounge area, this residence can be converted for use as stand-alone apartment. We also offer Nepali cooking classes every day!

Homestays allow you to experience real Nepal at affordable prices.

According to my Grand Mother, My grand father used to give a blessing to his juniors saying "May a pair of shoe be outside of your door always" ..
( I never saw my Grand father as he passed away before I was born)

That may have possibly 2- 3 meaning, one is you are always welcoming, two is that you are capable of feeding some one and the third is there is always harmoney between human kind. So Himanshu home stay is inispried by his bleessing...

Himansnshu home stay in Kathmandu is 5 minute walk from Shar Minub Ling at Nagarjun Valley - this is the area where  Guru Shamar Rinpoche is developing a large Monastery.  Unfortunately respected Rinpoche, who was 62, had died of a heart attack in Germany on June 11.

The late Shamar Rinpoche himself had expressed a wish to have his last rites performed in the country where Lord Buddha was born, so he is was cremated in Nepal in this monastery.
Who is Guru Shamar Rimpoche?

The Shamarpa is the third highest religious leader after the Dalai Lama and Karmapa in the Tibetan community. Born in eastern Tiben in 1952, the Shamarpa was taken to Sikkim by the sixteenth Kamarpa. He was just a seven-year-old boy when he was taken to Sikkim. He studied Buddhism in a monastery in Rumtek, Sikkim before heading for the US for higher studies. He was active in spreading the teachings of the Buddha in Nepal, India and Bhutan.
